Individual Therapy
Chesapeake Bay
Psychological Services provides individual therapy
for adults, adolescents, and some children.
Individual therapy takes many forms, depending upon
the presenting problem, diagnosis, and the
therapist's skills and preferences. Our therapists use
a variety of therapeutic approaches as appropriate,
including cognitive-behavioral therapies,
person-centered therapy, insight-oriented therapy,
and supportive therapy. Clients should feel free to
ask us about each of these types of
therapy.

Group Therapy
Chesapeake Bay Psychological Services plans to
offer a variety of groups over time, depending upon
community needs and requests. Groups may include
support groups, parenting groups, groups for teens,
and groups focused on specific diagnoses or issues.

Family Therapy
Especially for children and adolescents, we often recommends family therapy over
individual therapy. Different family therapy
approaches are used depending upon the presenting
problem, diagnosis, and family situation. Treatment
may include aspects of behavioral family therapy,
structural family therapy, systemic family therapy,
parent training, solution-focused therapy, and
relational therapy.

Psychological Testing
We offer psychological
evaluation services to answer questions regarding
ADHD, cognitive functioning/IQ, learning,
educational achievement, memory, and mental health
or emotional concerns. Testing services range from
simple rating scales to complex evaluations. Our
director, Dr. Smithmyer, whose experience includes
hundreds of psychological evaluations, provides or
supervises all of our evaluation services. Please

Specialty Evaluation
Services
We also provide several types of highly
specialized evaluation services, including child
custody evaluations, mental injury evaluations, and
adoption evaluations. A court, lawyer, or social
services agency usually refers clients for these
types of evaluations. Please contact us for more information.

Consultation Services
Our clinicians are available for consultation
regarding areas of psychology in which they has
training and expertise. For example, parents might
seek consultation regarding their children's need
for educational accommodations in grade school or
college. Separated parents might seek consultation
to resolve parenting differences. Plesae contact us
